ICC Champions Trophy 2013: NZ vs SL Statistical Highlights

Cardiff was the venue in the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 where a record 636 runs were scored in 100 overs at the loss of 17 wickets and in the same venue 3 days later only 277 runs scored in 74.2 overs at the loss of 19 wickets in the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. It was purely a bowlers' match where pace was dominant. New Zealand won the match by just 1 wicket in the chase of 138 runs set by Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka didn't had a good start as their young opener Kusal Perera was dismissed off the first ball. Sangakkara built the innings well but there was no support from the other end. Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the bowlers with 4/43 and Sri Lanka were dismissed on 138 with Sangakkara scoring 68. A similar beginning for New Zealand's innings. Wickets fell at regular intervals and no one stayed for a long time. A good partnership of McCullum brothers was broke by Lasith Malinga who finished with 4/34 but couldn't take the final wicket. Therefore New Zealand won the match by 1 wicket and 81 balls to spare.
