ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in Numbers

The seventh and the final edition of ICC Champions Trophy was won by the youngest team in the tournament, India. This was India's second ICC Champions Trophy title after a shared title in 2002. England lost another ICC ODI Tournament final! This was their 5th loss in finals after ICC WC 1979, 1987,1992 and ICC CT 2004. South Africa as usual could only get to Semi Finals to preserve the "Chokers" tag and Sri Lankan just couldn't defeat India. Defending champions Australia couldn't even qualify for the Semi Finals.

Most Runs after 100 Innings in ODIs

Virat Kohli played 100th innings of his ODI career in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 Final against England. He managed to score 43 runs and has an aggregate of 4230 Runs in 100 Innings of his 103 ODI matches. His tally of 4230 runs is the most by any Indian after playing the 100th ODI Inning.

On 18 June 1983 
After 58 centuries in 215 matches in ODI cricket since 1971, the first century by an Indian batsman was scored. India were playing their 45th ODI and before that the highest score by an Indian was 95 by Kris Srikkanth but no hundreds. In the match against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup, KAPIL DEV became the first Indian to score an ODI century. It was a special one and still one of the best ODI inning. 



Since then 203 ODI centuries have been scored by 33 Indians.

Aus vs NZ Statistical Highlights: ICC Champions Trophy 2013

Australia were all set to play a Do or Die game to be the contenders for the Semi Finals of ICC Champions Trophy 2013 at Edgbaston on 12 July 2013. After their defeat against England in the first match they had to win against their another regular rivals, New Zealand. Australia won the toss and chose to bat. New Zealand bowlers continued their form and soon Australia were 10/2 in the 4th over. Half centuries from the Skipper George Bailey and Adam Voges steadied the inning. A cameo Glenn Maxwell took them to 243/8 in 50 overs. Mitchell McClenaghan finished with 4/65.

Rain Spoiled a must win match for Australia

New Zealand needed to chase 244 on this pitch of Edgbaston. Clint McKay dismissed both the openers cheaply and put Australia right on the track. But the clouds had some other ideas. Rain interrupted the play at 51/2 in 51 overs. And what next! Match never began again and was called off. Both teams were awarded a point each. Australia with 1 point needs to win the remaining game against Sri Lanka to have hopes to enter Semis.

Ind vs WI Statistical Highlights: ICC Champions Trophy 2013

India and West Indies, both won their first league games against South Africa and Pakistan respectively met to decide the first semi finalist of the 2013 edition of ICC Champions Trophy. The climate was overcast but the heat was on! Hence the team winning the toss had to field first. India did the same and put West Indies to bat. The danger man Chris Gayle was soon sent back and which won India half of the game. Keeper Johnson Charles and Brian Lara's look alike Darren Bravo steadied the inning and brought up 100 runs on the scorecard in the 20th over. After which the Ravindra Jadeja magic began! He soon dismissed Charles, Samuels and Sarwan in successive overs. Skipper Bravo and Pollard scored 20s but couldn't score big. The wickets kept felling but the former Skipper Darren Sammy was in other ideas. He smashed 56*(35) in no time and took Indies to a good score of 233/9. Ravindra Jadeja took a 5-for. 

India were dominating West Indies from the beginning

A good start by Indian openers, just like against South Africa, paved the way for what was to be seen as an easy win. Dhawan and Rohit put on another century partnership. Rohit scored a half century, while Dhawan went on to score another century. A little cameo from Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthick's stable innings took India to a 8 wicket victory. India qualified for the Semi Finals.

After defeats in their first game, Pakistan and South Africa were to play a Do or Die game. On 10th June 2013, at Edgbaston both the teams met in the view of a must win game. Because the loser will be almost out from the tournament and the winner will be contending to go to the next round. The Proteas skipper AB de Villiers won the toss and chose to bat. South Africans got off to a good start with their openers Amla and Ingram putting up a 50 run stand. Ingram left the crease after scoring 20 but Amla went on to score 81 runs. But no one could play longer innings and the reason was not the Pakistani bowlers but the batsman themselves. Yes, 4 run outs in their inning. No firing in the death overs let SA make only 234/9 in 50 overs.

Pakistan to order collapsed by the debutant Chris Morris. Pakistan scored at very low run rate as they could manage only 18 runs in first 10 overs.
