Cardiff was the venue in the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 where a record 636 runs were scored in 100 overs at the loss of 17 wickets and in the same venue 3 days later only 277 runs scored in 74.2 overs at the loss of 19 wickets in the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka didn't had a good start as their young opener Kusal Perera was dismissed off the first ball. Sangakkara built the innings well but there was no support from the other end. Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the bowlers with 4/43 and Sri Lanka were dismissed on 138 with Sangakkara scoring 68. A similar beginning for New Zealand's innings. Wickets fell at regular intervals and no one stayed for a long time. A good partnership of McCullum brothers was broke by Lasith Malinga who finished with 4/34 but couldn't take the final wicket. Therefore New Zealand won the match by 1 wicket and 81 balls to spare.

The oldest and the most famous rivals of Cricket - England and Australia were all set ro come face to face in the ICC Champions Trophy before the real championship, The Ashes. The venue was Edgbaston, Birmingham on 8th of June 2013. England won the first part, the Toss, and chose to bat first. Once again their dependable skipper Cook and the experienced Bell took them to a good start and then classical Jonathan Trott played his part. But some quick wickets then and Bopara and Bresnan took them to 269/6 in their 50 overs. Australia in reply didn't start well with Warner walking away soon. Small partnerships between Watson/Hughes and Hughes/Bailey steadied the chase of 270. But with the collapse of their lower middle over couldn't help them and in the end they lost the match by 48 runs. Ian Bell was declared the Man of the Match for his 91(115).

English bowlers produced an easy win against their greatest rivals.

He was unbeaten on 111* overnight and smashed 390 runs in a day (6th June 1994) and scored 501* for Warwickshire vs Durham at Birmingham. His 501 runs came in 427 balls including 62 fours and 10 sixes in the second innings of the match. Durham declared their first innings on 556/8 in 156.5 overs and in reply Warwickshire scored 810/4 in just 135.5 overs which is a Run Rate of 5.96.  The match ended in a Draw!

ICC Champions Trophy 2013: Match No.2, Pak vs WI Statistical Highlights

After a high scoring opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, the second match was played between West Indies and Pakistan which was a low scoring one. But the thrill of the champions vs champions was nevertheless. After Pakistan been put to bat by the Caribbeans lost quick wickets and then a partnership between Jamshed and captain Misbah made the team steady. Misbah played a captains knock being unbeaten on 96 and Pakistan were all out on 170. West Indies while coming to chase a small total also lost quick wickets similar to Pakistan. But 30s from Gayle, Samuels and Pollard took them to victory. Indies lost 8 wickets though.

ICC Champions Trophy 2013: Match No.1, Ind vs SA Statistical Highlights

India and South Africa played the first match of the final edition of ICC Champions Trophy at Cardiff on 6th June 2013. The two favorites of the tournament played their best and finally it was India who registered a win. South Africa won the toss and put India to bat. India managed to score 331/7 in their 50 overs with a century from Shikhar Dhawan. South Africa could score only 305 runs in reply. India won the match by 26 runs and earned two points in the first match of the tournament.

Alastair Cook - Second Youngest to score 25 Test Hundreds

Alastair Cook completed his 25th test century on the 4th day of the 2nd test vs NZ. He is the 17th player to do so and first by an England batsman. He also completed 7500 test runs, 7th by an England batsman. He also scored his 7th test century as captain only in his 11th innings as captain.
